WHETHER YOU FROTH FORMULA 1 OR NOT, YOU WILL FROTH THIS DOCU-SERIES
Netflix is back with another humdinger of a sports documentary, to join the ranks of Last Chance U and Iverson. It's called Formula 1: Drive To Survive... and it's wild!
I don't know about you but nothing gets me going like a good sports doco. There is seriously no bigger emotional rollercoaster than watching some athletes make it to the top with nothing but a dream and a bit of ticker.
Now, I can sit through some critically acclaimed wanky drama without a blink. Show me the last episode of Last Chance U, where they show you what's happened to all the players, and I've got my head in a pillow sobbing with tears.
Seriously. Seeing what happened to Isaiah Wright was one of the most bitter, sported related pills I've ever tried to swallow. Second only to me being robbed of a spot in my schools 1st XV (a lot of politics involved, obviously), but that's a story for another time.
Anyway, after episode one, I had pretty much this same level of emotional investment in Formula 1: Drive To Survive. How could I not?
It was filmed in partnership with the Formula One itself. That means, as the viewer, you get in and amongst everything. The pit crews. The drivers. Even the mind games of managing an F1 team.
Can I say, just quietly, that if you thought rugby league players swore a lot, wait until you hear come of the convos between drivers and their pit crews.
Coming out of the last episode, I felt like I knew some of those drivers better than my mates. And to be honest, a lot of them seem like far better blokes than the boys I hang out with.
I don't want to give too much away, but it is for sure some of the best TV I've seen in a long while. I can safely say I wasn't much of a rev-head before this. I mean, I haven't even watched a full lap of Bathurst. But after this, you can put your house on me watching the next Grand Prix.
